Episode 8: Influencers, Fake Niceness & Why Making Friends Feels So Hard

Why does making friends as an adult feel like one of the hardest things nobody warned us about?

In this episode of Bite Hard, I’m getting very honest about friendship, rejection, loneliness, social anxiety and the weird reality of trying to find your people as an adult.

We start with influencers - the ones who preach “girls supporting girls” online but can barely acknowledge you in real life. I share an experience that still gets under my skin, and unpack why subtle rejection can hurt just as much as the obvious kind. 

But honestly, this episode isn’t really about influencers.

It’s about belonging.

It’s about being the person who always says hello first, wondering whether you’re too much, questioning why everyone else seems to have their group while you’re still trying to find yours.

I talk about growing up feeling like I needed to change my personality to fit in, going to three schools, being told to adjust my behaviour, and what happens when you finally decide you’d rather be fully yourself than accepted for a watered-down version of you. 

We also get into the infamous social media unfollow purge — including the 300+ people I eventually removed from my life online - and the strange mix of relief and sadness that came with letting go of people I secretly hoped would accept me one day. 

I definitely don't have friendship figured out. But I’m learning that wanting connection doesn't make you needy, being rejected doesn't make you unlikable, and not having your "people" yet doesn't mean you never will.

Maybe we're not behind.

Maybe we're just still searching.
