Episode 69 – Bay Rats & Buoys Podcast
Spring is getting closer and the momentum is building on Episode 69 of Bay Rats & Buoys! This week Captain Gaige and Captain Kory dive into the excitement surrounding the launch of The Fishing League™ as teams begin locking in their spots for the upcoming 8-month competition across the Long Island Sound. With opening day only a little over five weeks away, the league is starting to take shape and anglers from New York and Connecticut are getting fired up for the season ahead.
We’re also gearing up for one of the biggest fishing events on Long Island, the Ward Melville High School Fishing Club Expo, which is now a two-day event this year! Join us Saturday, March 7 from 8:30 AM – 4 PM and Sunday, March 8 from 9 AM – 2 PM where the Bay Rats & Buoys crew will be set up in the gym at our booth. Stop by to meet Captain Gaige and Captain Kory, ask questions about the league, and register your team on the spot for what is shaping up to be the hottest new fishing competition on the Long Island Sound.
We want to give a huge thank you to our supporters Volpi Marine, J&M Seafood, and Sea Tow Huntington for backing the league and helping grow the fishing community here on Long Island. Their support is helping us build something special for anglers who love competition, camaraderie, and chasing big fish all season long.
As the countdown to April 15th continues, we also talk about the first Striped Bass Tournament of the season running April 15 – April 30, which will kick off the league with an early spring battle for leaderboard points. Even though winter has taken its toll on some local marinas with ice damage, one thing is certain—when April 15 arrives, Captain Gaige and Captain Kory will be out there hunting down the first bass of the season.
We also preview our next stop on the show circuit as Bay Rats & Buoys heads to the New Jersey Saltwater Expo in Edison the weekend of March 15th, where we’ll be stocking up on new gear we’re excited to put to work this spring.
Plus, don’t forget about the Bay Rats & Buoys Fishing Club—new members are joining and our next meeting is coming up later this month. If you want to be part of the community both on and off the water, this is the place to be.
The season is getting close, the teams are forming, and the buzz around the league is growing fast. Stop by the booth, shake our hands, sign up your team, and let’s get ready for an incredible 2026 fishing season.
