Kyle is back from NCM Client and Friends, where conversations with dealers kept circling the same themes: strong peer communities, the importance of dealership-specific context, growing confusion over technology direction, and an AI governance concern that got very real, very fast.
Community: Kyle said dealers repeatedly emphasized the value of 20 Groups and tight peer relationships, including the ability to meet in person several times a year and continue those conversations asynchronously.
Context: As dealers build and adopt AI tools, Kyle heard an emphasis on capturing not just vehicle and brand data, but SOPs, decision-making processes, and other institutional knowledge specific to the dealership.
Confusion: Three GMs or owners told Kyle that, unlike previous technology cycles, they’re hearing much more disagreement from vendors about what dealers should do next, making “direction” harder to find.
Concern: One dealership employee built an automated used-car pricing dashboard by giving Claude their IMS credentials, prompting immediate concern about credentials reaching a frontier model without IT governance.
Brandon Beaver of Beaver Toyota told Kyle that “institutional knowledge is one of the like most important things right now.”
