Episode Description

This week is all about autistic shutdowns with a side-serving of alexithymia! If you struggle to know how you’re feeling while you’re feeling it, this episode may resonate with you. We’re discussing how to support yourself when you’re shutting down, how to find an outlet for emotions and even possibly identify them, and more. Autistic adult shutdowns don’t get enough airtime!

We're answering:

  • I was clinically diagnosed this year before my 51st birthday with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1. Long story short I grew up in an abusive household and was taught at a young age to hold every emotion inside lest I upset someone. How do I know if I’m having a shutdown or if it’s my trained reaction to conflict? What can I do to reduce these moments? Mental health therapy is not accessible to me where I live with my income unless I turn to a platform that seems to churn out therapy to the masses and I don’t feel great to do that. Thank you both for your thoughts.
